Details of Modules (Flexible choice!!!)
Module 1 ? Hardware Installation (PC DIY) (estimated 4 hours) - Assembly of PC hardware e.g. Motherboard, CPU, RAM, Harddisk, external video card, external audio card, DVD ROM, CPU casing with appropriate power supply and fans).
- Basic information on the PC hardware specifications (e.g. Types of Motherboard, CPU ? Intel/AMD, RAM ? DDR2/DDR3, Harddisk ? Parallel/ SATA, etc).
- Basic PC troubleshooting skills (e.g. faulty CPU, RAM not installed properly, harddisk failing).
- Installation of Input devices (e.g. Keyboard, Mouse).
- Installation of Output devices (e.g. Monitor, Printer, Speaker).
- Comparison of different hardware specifications.
 
Module 2 ? OS and Software Installation/ Configuration (Basic) (estimated 4 hours) - Formatting of new and raw Harddisk.
- Installation of Operating System (OS) (e.g. Windows XP/ Windows 7).
- Configuration of OS (e.g. setup of User Accounts, Quick Launch, Language installation).
- Installation of essential drivers (e.g Motherboard chipset, LAN port, video card, audio card, etc.).
- Installation of Anti-virus program (e.g. Norton/ AVG/ Mcafee).
- Installation of Internet Browser (e.g. IE, Mozilla/ Safari -> Homepage, Bookmark).
- Setup OS-based Email account (e.g. Microsoft Outlook/ Outlook Express).
- Installation of basic Microsoft Office.
- Basic Housekeeping rules for PC maintenance.
 
Module 3 ? OS and Software Installation/ Configuration (Intermediate) (estimated 4 hours)
- Harddisk Partitioning (e.g. divide the harddisk into multiple drives e.g. C:/ D:/ E:).
- Firmware update for Motherboard.
- Firewall concept (e.g. how to unblock firewall to enable certain applications to run).
- Email tips (e.g. how to archive emails, and restore emails from archive).
- Internet browser tips (e.g. how to archive ?favourite/ bookmarks?).
- Installation of multiple OS in one harddisk (e.g. WinXP in C:, Windows 7 in D:).
 
Module 4 ? Basic Networking (estimated 6 hours)
- Create simple home networking environment(e.g. Workgroup) for PC-to-PC file sharing, such that all PCs can see files in each other?s computer.
- Create wireless printing environment (i.e. all PCs can print wirelessly via a central printer).
- Create a central harddisk for central file storage purpose (i.e. all PCs can store and view files from a central harddisk).
- Improve wireless signal (i.e. the wireless signal from your wireless router can be improved without the need to lay long LAN cables anymore).
- Improve wireless router security (such that it is impossible for your neighbour to leverage on your wireless router).
- How to use available software program for remote troubleshooting (i.e. at the convenience in your house, you can help your friend troubleshoot his home PC by using a software program to take over control of his PC remotely).
- How to use available software program to view/control PC 1 remotely from PC2 or an iphone anywhere in the world.
Module 5 ? Video Editing / Internet resource / others (estimated 6 hours)
- Basic video editing, creating video montage for various events (e.g. birthday, wedding, etc).
- How to use torrent files to search and download useful programs (e.g. movies, software programs, ebook, etc.).
- How to setup a system to surf Internet and watch online movies from your living room TV, at the comfort of your sofa.
- How to stream movies from your study room PC to your living room TV.
- How to perform harddisk data recovery during soft crash (i.e harddisk is not physically damaged).
